How Do I Use 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) Verification Codes?
A 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) verification code is needed once every 30 days when logging in to ensure you are the correct user on the account. Where the code is sent depends on the two-factor method set on your account, which you can view and change under Account & Security:
SMS - the code is sent by text to the phone number on your account. This is the default.
Authenticator App - you generate the code in your authenticator app, and nothing is sent to you
If the phone number on your account is an old number or can no longer receive texts, contact support and we can help you regain access. Changing the number on your account also requires a verification code, so this is not something you can do yourself once you are locked out.
Verification codes are an essential part of Kalshi's security process, ensuring that only authorized users can create accounts or access certain features.
Using an authenticator app
You can use an authenticator app instead of receiving codes by text. To set it up, go to Account & Security, choose Authenticator App, then:
Download an authenticator app if you don't already have one (for example Google Authenticator).
Copy the setup key shown on the Kalshi screen.
Open your authenticator app and enter the setup key.
Generate a verification code for Kalshi and enter it to confirm.
Codes are generated on your device, so nothing is sent by SMS or email. Keep access to your authenticator app - if you lose it, contact support and we can help you regain access.
Why Am I Receiving 2FA Codes with Card Deposits or Withdrawals?
Your card issuer most likely sent you a 2-factor authentication code to verify the transaction on your Kalshi account. This step is to confirm that you authorized the charge. Most modern banks send this verification via SMS (Short Message Service), while some older banks might opt for a phone call. You need to respond to this message, typically with "Yes" or "No," to proceed. Make sure to confirm the message or consider using a different card to complete your deposit successfully. There is also a possibility that your bank is not sending you the needed code, so it can be helpful to reach out to the card issuer to inquire about the status of the 2FA code.
What Should I Do if My Verification Code Is Not Arriving?
SMS codes may take up to 20 minutes to arrive. Wait before requesting a new code. Ensure your phone can receive SMS messages and that any spam-blocking or call-filtering features are disabled.
If you no longer have the phone number on your account, contact support and we can help you regain access.
Some carriers block short-code messages. Contact your carrier to ensure short-code SMS is enabled.
If you previously opted out of SMS from Kalshi, text START to re-enable messages.
Restart the process if the code has expired or is not received.
