Portfolio: Balances and Positions

Understand your Kalshi portfolio value, cash balance, and positions, including why values change and how to reveal hidden balances.

Your Portfolio shows the balances, positions, and orders for the account you're viewing.

The balance, value, and payout explanations below describe Predictions. Perpetuals uses a separate margin account with different balance and position calculations.

What do my portfolio balances mean?

In your Predictions account:

  • Portfolio value is your cash balance plus the displayed value of your positions.

  • Positions shows the combined displayed value of your positions. It is not a guaranteed amount you can sell them for.

  • Cash changes with deposits, purchases, sales, settlement, withdrawals, fees, and other account adjustments. It is not limited to profits from trading.

  • Credit shows your nonwithdrawable credit balance. This amount is already included in Cash, so do not add it again when calculating your portfolio total. It is not a history of every credit issued.

Unfilled orders are not additional positions. Check your resting orders if an expected purchase has not appeared in your positions.

For individual positions, you can also review contract quantities, purchase prices, and potential payouts.

For example, ten contracts valued at $0.50 each have a displayed position value of $5. At $0.75 each, that position is valued at $7.50; at $0.25 each, it is valued at $2.50.

These figures describe one position, not your entire portfolio. If you have $20 in cash and a position valued at $5, with no other positions, your displayed portfolio total is $25.

Potential payout is not the same as profit. Your profit or loss also depends on what you paid and applicable fees.

For a simple binary contract that pays $1 for a favorable settlement outcome and $0 otherwise, ten contracts held to settlement pay $10 or $0. If those contracts cost $5, the result is a $5 gain or a $5 loss before applicable fees. Each contract's rules determine its settlement and payout.

Why does my portfolio value keep changing?

Your Predictions portfolio value can change as the displayed value of your positions changes, even when you haven't placed a new trade. Changes in open-position prices alone do not change your Predictions cash balance.

Your displayed portfolio value is not a guaranteed cash-out amount. In the mobile app, Current value in a Predictions position's details is a cash-out estimate based on available bids and estimated sell fees. When liquidity is limited, this estimate may cover only part of your position.

Review the quantity, price, and estimated proceeds before submitting a sell order. Prices and available quantities can change before execution, so your final proceeds may differ from the estimate.

Why can't I cash out my position?

Selling a Predictions position requires buyers at prices permitted by your order. Depending on available liquidity and your order settings, an order may fill completely, fill partly, or remain unfilled.

In the mobile app, Cash Out opens the sell flow. Review the order details before submitting. Only the portion that executes becomes sale proceeds in your cash balance; cash remains part of your portfolio.

A limit sell order lets you set the minimum price you will accept, but it does not guarantee a sale. Existing resting sell orders and collateral requirements can also affect how much you can sell. Check your open orders and any message shown in the app.

Selling and withdrawing are separate actions. Your cash balance may differ from the amount available to withdraw. Check the withdrawal screen for your account's available amount.

Why does my Portfolio show stars or asterisks?

Asterisks (****) mean portfolio privacy mode is on.

In the mobile app, open Portfolio and tap the eye icon beside the Portfolio heading to reveal your balances. Tap it again to hide them.

This setting changes only the visibility of selected balances. Your funds and positions are unchanged. Some details, including individual position costs and potential payouts, remain visible.

Privacy mode itself does not prevent trading. Normal trading restrictions still apply.

Illustrative account and market data. Your balances, rates, and layout may differ.

Why can't I see my positions?

In the mobile app, open Portfolio. If you see Predictions and Perpetuals at the top, select the account you want to view.

Select Predictions for prediction-market positions or Perpetuals for perpetual futures (perps) positions. If the selected account shows “No open positions,” check the other account.

Selecting Predictions or Perpetuals changes which account you're viewing. It does not transfer funds or positions between accounts.

Also check the filters within the selected account:

  • Predictions: Open, Pending, and Closed.

  • Perpetuals: Positions, Orders, and History.

An unfilled buy order is not an open position. Check your orders to see whether the purchase has filled.
